Mitt Romney as played by Greg Wilk Questions Iraq As President, what would you do in the handling of the War in Iraq (60 sec.)? First off I’d like to comment that I though the Bush administration did an excellent job bringing down Saddam Hussein’s regime. Where they failed was in our readiness for the war and now were seeing the effects of this with the United States being in Iraq for so long. I want to bring our troops home, however at the same time, I want to leave a central, stable Iraq. Timetables will not do this and troop withdrawal like Ron Paul advocates will not do this. A central government with a strong military is necessary to ensure that no countries like Iran, or turkey try to take over a weak Iraq. Also, if we leave Iraq without a stable government, than it will just become a haven for alkaita and other terrorist groups. I plan to continue the troop surge and support the Iraqi government until they are strong enough to govern Iraq as one and protect it’s borders. When this happens, I will bring our troops home as well as bring home a win to the United States of America. Homeland Security What should we do about illegal immigration(30 sec.)? About 800,000 illegal immigrants a year pour into this country and I think first we need to put a stop to this flow. We must secure our border, perhaps with a fence to help stop illegal immigrants from Mexico. Additionally, I support an employee verification program consisting of a card with their name, biometric information, a number and their work status to ensure all who apply and get accepted for jobs are legal citizens. This will effectively eliminate jobs for illegal immigrants and destroy the magnet drawing them here. Now for the 12 million illegal immigrants already here, I think we need a timetable for them to apply for citizenship or permanent residency. If they can’t achieve this, than we must send them home. How would you, as President, protect our nation from another terrorist attack (30 sec.)? Well, first we must analyze why terrorist attacks happen and to me that’s quite clear. Radical Jihadist groups are trying to bring down all western governments and the United States epitomizes and is the origin of such cultures. I think we must address radical jihad in two ways. First with the military. Now Ron Paul is wrong that we shouldn’t offensively attack radical jihadist. They need to know that If you attack America, than your going to get a response. I think if we must intensify this response with an additional 100,000 troop addition to the military as well as additional funding to National Defense. My second way of addressing it is a non-military response. We need to improve radical Islamic nations’ education, farming economics, citizens rights and wealth so that the majority of Muslims are able to fight off the few radical ones they currently deal with. Gun Control What does the Second Amendment mean to you (30 sec.)? I uphold the second Amendment with the highest regard. The right to bear arms is a fundamental right for many Americans and I think gun legislation must be simplified and clarified. During my time as Massachusetts governor, I passed a law allowing hunters to cross roads without unloading their guns in pursuit of game. I also passed legislation allowing pistol companies to do business in Massachusetts. Not only do I support the second amendment for all other Americans, but for myself as well. That’s why in August 2006 I became a lifelong member of the NRA. Given the Omaha Mall and Virginia Tech shootings, what should the Federal Government do to prevent future public shootings (30 sec.)? I think something must be done about these shootings, however, I would attack the problem at the source not the end. Many of my opponents advocate gun control and limiting second amendment rights in order to control school shootings. However, this will not work. If someone is determined enough to commit mass murder, than their going to be able to obtain a fire arm no matter how illegal it is. We must instead protect the American Family so that kids do not grow up into crazy murders. Keeping a mother and father in the home is essential to the safety and sanity of our youth Moral Crisis What is the most significant moral crisis we as a nation face today (30 sec.)? The most significant crisis we face today is abortion. Approximately 3,700 unborn babies a day in this country are killed and that’s a problem we as a nation must solve. I have always believed abortion to be wrong however, at one point I was pro choice. I thought the supreme court had ruled and it was up to the government to than stay out of the way. But when the first life bill reached my desk as governor, I realized that in practice governments stance on human life had to be different than theory. I couldn’t vote to destroy human life so from that point on I have been fully pro life and every bill that passed by eyes I ensured wouldn’t further abortion rights. I plan to do the same as president and hope to overturn Roe v Wade so that abortion will be illegal and than I hope to help sway people’s opinion and attitude toward the horrid practice. To what extent should the U.S. condone the use of torture in the War on Terror (30 sec.)? Now I have always been against torture. However, I don’t think a candidate for presidency should specify what methods should or shouldn’t be used. I know McCain has come out with saying waterboarding should be illeigal and I respect his expertise and experience in the matter. At the same time, I don’t think as a candidate McCain should classify torture. That job ought to be left to those more closely related with the matter. Also, I strongly support the continued use of Guantatamo Bay. I think terrorists should be brought there instead of into our prison system where lawyers and legal precedents can get them free. Bringing them to Guantanamo lets us interrogate them and ensure the greater safety of our nation.
