Color Guard (also known as Flags) is an integral part of the Marching Mustangs. A variety of flag equipment, dance choreography, and drill maneuvers are used in the routines. The Color Guard performs as part of the MM at football games and marching competitions. The Color Guard meets by themselves two afternoons a week (usually Monday and Thursday from 3:00-5:30 p.m.). Additionally, the entire Marching Mustangs meet one night a week during the fall from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Students start the year by attending the RMHS Early Summer Music Camp for a couple of nights in June/July and the Annual Marching Mustang Band Camp. This camp is traditionally held during the first full week of August from Monday through Friday. The Marching Mustangs perform at all home football games, three marching contests, and an optional university band day trip, and the end of the season Band-O-Rama concert which features all music and routines done during the MM season. The MM season generally ends the last week of October. Membership in the Marching Color Guard is determined from a tryout and recommendation process that takes place in late spring of the proceeding year.
Winter Color Guard began during the 1999-2000 school year at RMHS. The routines are performed on a basketball court. The Winter Color Guard performs at
basketball games and TDI (Team Dance Illinois) competitions. The season lasts from November until the state contest in March.
