After working as a research technician and clinical laboratory technician, he entered the University of Illinois, receiving his MD degree in 1989. His medical training continued with his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Michigan and Ann Arbor VA Hospitals. From 1992 to 1995, Dr. Mathey completed a fellowship in hematology/oncology at the University of Washington, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, VA and Harborview Hospitals in Seattle. Dr. Mathey is a member of the American Medical Association, Washington State Medical Association, King County Medical Society, and Puget Sound Oncology Consortium. In addition, Dr. Mathey has published widely in his field in the areas of transfusion medicine and engraftment. Not only a highly trained and qualified physician but also a caring healer, Dr. Mathey deeply touched the Rolling Meadows High School Community when he treated our former librarian, Molly Warren, who contracted fatal leukemia. Throughout her long stay in Seattle Dr. Mathey was a positive force in her life. As Molly herself wrote, I thought as teachers you would be proud to learn of your success in producing the best and the brightest. |
