DISTRIBUTION OF GRADUATION TICKETS - 4 PER STUDENT
Each senior is guaranteed four tickets in the gymnasium for guests. Students may request two additional tickets in the theatre for a remote simulcast graduation ceremony. Tickets are limited due to fire restrictions in the school gymnasium. Tickets will be distributed at the commencement rehearsal. Individual seats are not reserved. However, a limited number of seats will be reserved on the main floor for guests who are elderly or handicapped. Requests for these special tickets and additional tickets may be made after May 12 through May 23 in the Main Office.
See Mrs. Kucharik in the Main Office for additional ticket requests. Regular tickets must be exchanged for the handicap tickets.
Tickets will not be distributed to students with financial obligations.
CAPS AND GOWNS - These will be distributed immediately after rehearsal. We have tried to give everyone a proper fit; however, if you have not been fitted for a cap and gown and/or if your gown is not satisfactory and you would like to exchange it for a better fit, you may do so with the cap and gown company representative in the gym area after rehearsal.
DISMISSAL - Rehearsal will end and seniors will be dismissed when the administration is certain that the ceremony will run smoothly. Areas other than the gym are OFF LIMITS to seniors without a pass from a teacher or administrator. Seniors are to leave the building as quietly as possible because underclassmen are still in their classes. Rehearsal and senior class activities should not extend beyond 12:00 noon.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMMENCEMENT - Sunday, June 1, 2008 - 12:00 NOON.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS - CLOTHING: Boys should wear a dress shirt and tie, dress slacks with dark socks and dark dress shoes. It is preferred that girls wear dark colored shoes. Girls should wear a dress or a skirt and blouse. No one may wear shorts, jeans, athletic wear, sport shoes, or rubber flip-flops. If you are dressed inappropriately, you may be asked to have someone bring you other clothing and/or shoes.
CAP AND GOWN: Mortarboard tassels should be worn on the right for commencement. The front of the mortarboard should be one inch above the eyebrows and straight across the forehead. Gowns should never be pressed with a hot iron; use either a warm iron (treat the fabric like rayon fabric) or hang the gown on a hanger in the bathroom where a hot shower has run long enough to make the air warm and moist. Wrinkles will readily hang out of the fabric when hung in this manner. You have paid for your cap and gown so you can "keep it" as a souvenir.
LINE-UP INSTRUCTIONS - All seniors should arrive at 11:00 a.m. and begin lining up at 11:15 a.m., wearing caps and gowns with mortarboards properly adjusted. Seniors are to meet in the Cafeteria. Parents and friends should go directly to the Gym. Do not leave purses or valuables in the cafeteria area. Give them to your parents. Please be quiet while lining up before the ceremony, noise from outside the gymnasium will easily be heard. Anyone arriving after the processional will be instructed to enter after the singing of the National Anthem.
MARCHING INSTRUCTIONS - Before starting to march, check to see which student is in front of you, beside you and behind you. A counselor will be on hand to help you. It will help maintain correct spacing in the processional if you try not to look at your feet but keep your head up and look straight ahead.
When you arrive at your place after the processional, seniors should remain standing for the Star Spangled Banner.
Tell your parents before graduation on which side of the gym you will be marching and sitting, so they will have a better chance to see you. Please urge your parents and friends to withhold applause while diplomas are being issued and ask them not to approach the stage and take pictures, which might disrupt the ceremony. We want this graduation to be a happy, dignified, and successful experience for everyone; therefore, picture-taking, excessive movement, and loud talking must be kept to a minimum. A professional photographer will be taking a picture of each graduate as he/she receives their diploma. These pictures will be available for purchase on line on a secure website.
A VIDEOTAPE OF THE CEREMONY - The ceremony can be videotaped when it is broadcast on Cable TV. Dates and time of the broadcast will be announced.
RECESSIONAL - Proceed out the gym doors, turn right through the main foyer, and back to the South Cafeteria, where your counselor will be stationed with your diploma. Please ask parents and friends to stay clear of the foyer area until all graduates have recessed. Parents may meet with graduates afterwards.
You will receive your diploma only if all financial obligations with the school have been cleared, and if you exhibit appropriate behavior during the entire ceremony
