Well, we made it, project complete and does it look great!
How great does the purple and gold look on the RM!!!!! The first part of the Mustangs has been painted, a little purple to go with that gold is still to come. I would like to say we are in the home stretch, paint should be done by tomorrow and then two coats of sealer.
So much happened while I was gone on the 13th, all of the taped lines were placed on the floor and the started the process of painting. We are getting so close to the finished product it is amazing. New this time around will be the RM logo in the center court and the badminton lines will be regulation size of 1 1/2".
Two coats of sealer have been placed on the floor. Today, they are cutting out the holes for the volleyball standards and the gymnastics uneven bar supports. The striping company will be in to start marking out all of the lines as well as the company that will be placing the blowers for the floor will be in. There is still so much to do but we are on track to back in on January 3rd.
Mustan Fans, look at where we are at!!!!! The sealer went on behind the bleachers and the bleachers are now back in place. They started sanding the entire floor yesterday on what I am calling the "sanding zamboni" machine, it is unbelievable. The look to be done with sanding today and hopefully starting on putting down the first coat of sealer tomorrow. The lines for the floor will start going on next week. We are getting close and I am truly excited about the finish product.
I hope everyone in Mustang Land had a great Turkey Day! As you can see in the pictures, the bleachers have been pushed toward the center of the floor and they are finishing up the flooring behind. Once this is done, they will start to sand the portions behind the bleachers and put a couple of coats of sealer. Once this has dried, they will move the bleachers back in place and start sanding the rest of the floor. The project is still on schedule, which makes everyone extremely happy. I had a meeting last week regarding the floor design and you are going to love the brightness of the floor color, the letters being a nice purple and gold as well as a purple and gold RM in the center.
11/23/11 - UPDATE
Sorry I missed putting up some pictures yesterday, no cable for the camera (user error):). I have a meeting today to discuss floor markings, which is exciting and I am hoping to find out more about the progress. In todays pictures you can see how close we really are to the bleachers, a reminder that the original floor comes out about a foot from the bleachers. I would like to wish all of our Mustang fans a Happy Thanksgiving!!!!
**UPDATE - Look what came away from the wall today!!!!!!! We are on schedule and the markings are going to look fabulous!
Week 4 and we are getting closer. They are about 10-15' away from the bleachers, soon it will be time for the bleachers to be moved so they can take out the old and put in the new.
More progress, it is awesome!!!! I will be out of the building the next two days, so I will be back on 11/21/11 the start of week 4. Can't wait.
It has finally begun and boy does it look nice!!!!
This is the start of week three, the sub-floor is just about complete, the hard wood is just waiting to be nailed in place.
We are only 9 days into the project and the progress has been great. The guys that are working are moving along nicely.
It has begun...in the south east corner the plastic, underlayment and 1x6 scissor lock pattern has been laid. It is all coming together nicely, keep up the good work guys because we can't wait to get on this floor.
By the end of the day yesterday, you can see that the new floor made it off of the truck and is now in the gym breathing. The second picture shows that we are installing a 1 1/2" maple board which I think is going to look sharp. The M is getting ready to make its way out of the gym and ready for the booster club to work on a fundraiser.
By the end of the day, the 40 year old floor will be gone...but look at what is parked in the lot....the new floor!!!!
What a day makes....
After a slow start, there has been some really good progress going on.
Not only is it Halloween, it is the start of the complete main gym floor re-do. As I see some of the initial boards being removed I think about all of those athletes who contributed to some great victories as well as being part of some heartbreaking loses over the past 40 years. Homecoming Kings and Queens that paraded around the gym floor, dances where everyone joined in to have fun. There have been many pep assemblies cheering Seniors, Seniors... as well as cheering on our beloved MUSTANGS. This floor has history, some of which you have been a part of and some of our community members who can think back of the great times they had at RMHS. Recently, I had a member of the class of 1975 come and pick up a few pieces of the gym floor and it was great to see how excited he was re-caling the time that he stood at the free throw line waiting to shoot two very important free throws. You cannot take away 40 years of memories from those who walked through our school. I have met many alumni and there are many out there that I have not met but I want to thank you for all of those memories that each and every one of you had here at RMHS. For those of you who are current students, come January, 2012 you are going to have the opportunity to create some new memories on a new floor. My goal is to keep you updated on the progress of this 7 week project....keep watching for some photos.
