8th Grade Testing and High School Placement

In November of each academic year we administer a placement exam to all 8th grade students planning to enroll in a District 214 high school the following year.  If your child will be attending a District 214 school next year, he/she must participate in this testing.  The placement test that District 214 administers is the EXPLORE.  Additionally, the students are asked to complete a writing assessment. 

District 214 makes course placements based on a number of factors including teacher recommendations, grades, EXPLORE test scores, and a writing assessment. Additionally, EXPLORE test results will be used as criteria for placement in special programs, such as talent development, skills programs, and honors placement.
