Elyssa’s Mission® provides resources to help prevent teen suicide. The community-based organization was founded in 2006 in honor of Elyssa, a bright, gifted and outgoing Chicagoland girl who bravely battled post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. Elyssa’s Mission® provides hands-on support to area public and private schools in order to educate students, staff and parents on how to recognize and assist those teens most at-risk. Must be a H.S. Sr. or Jr. who has applied the ACT seeking technique; must submit a narrative work or a work of art to demonstrate their use of ACT to help themselves of a friend.   • US Citizen between the ages of 17 and 30
  • Reside in the Chicago metropolitan area (Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry or Will county)
  • Applicants must be a cancer patient, cancer survivor or has an immediate family member that is a cancer patient, cancer survivor or has passed away due to cancer. “Immediate Family” is defined as Mother, Father, Brother or Sister.
  • Applicants must plan to enroll as a full-time student (minimum 12 semester hours) in pursuit of a certificate or undergraduate degree at an accredited 2 or 4year College/University for the 2020-2021 academic year.  Special consideration will be given to those pursuing a journalism degree.

1/9/20 ISCA Student Scholarship $1,000

Students who will be completing high school in 2020 are eligible for this non-renewable $1,000 scholarship. The scholarship can be used to support the following post-secondary options: 4 year college/university, 2 year college/university, trade school, apprenticeship program. All applications have to be submitted by Friday, February 7, 2020. Once finalists have been selected, all school counselors for finalists must be current ISCA members in order to move forward in the selection process. Student winners and their school counselors will be invited to attend the ISCA Annual Conference April 17, 2020(Tinley Park), to receive their award and to recognize their school counselor. By submitting a completed application, participants agree to allow the Illinois School Counselors Association (ISCA) to use the responses on their website for recognition purposes or for other communications about Illinois School Counselors. 1/21/20 SCAD Distinguished Scholars Award $20,000

Please see Mrs. Fisher if you are interested in being nominated for this scholarship program. This scholarship may be applied to any SCAD location, including online via SCAD eLearning. To be considered, students are recommended by a teacher or counselor; it is renewable annually for students who maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA; nominations and completed student application files, including transcripts, official test scores, portfolios and resumes; min.1390 SAT combined math and critical reading score, or ACT composite score of at least 31; GPA 3.75/4.0; stellar visual arts, performing arts, writing or equestrian capabilities; honors, awards from competitions or other recognitions; leadership skills demonstrated through co-curricular or extracurricular involvement; complete all SCAD admission requirements, including transcript/portfolio submissions, by Jan. 26.
